About Me: "Tell me and I will forget, teach me and I will remember, involve me and I will learn." Benjamin Franklin
My name is Doina Bekmez. I am an English teacher at The American School of Afak Academy in Ankara, Turkey. I have taught English as a first language for the past 10 years, following the American and British curriculum.
Before I relocated to Ankara, I worked as an English teacher at an international British school in Romania for 7 years, teaching students from more than 40 different countries, following a British curriculum and preparing them for CIE( Primary and Secondary Checkpoint, IGCSE, AS level) as well as Cambridge English Assessment trainer (YLE, KET, PET, FCE) under the supervision of the British Council. I have also organized Cambridge Exams as an Exams Officer and Academic Supervisor.
During my experience as Projects Coordinator, I wrote a project on CLIL (Content-Language Integrated Learning) which received a grant from the European Union (through Erasmus + program) allowing me and my team to travel to other countries and observe different teaching practices in international schools. I have also delivered seminars (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece and Ovidius University of Constanta, Romania) on CLIL teaching method.
Working with students of all ages from all around the world, I have taught children with different English levels and have used different methods suitable to the students' needs. I like to create a positive, supportive learning environment and inspire my students to achieve any goal.
